Rape and Torture: Just the Tip of the Iceburg, Why Cheney really tortured innocent Iraqi's

Dick Cheney wanted to invade Iraq and overthrow Saddam

This had been published in 1997, in the Dick Cheney instigated PNAC documents and website, the Neocon agenda to overthrow 6 Middle East regimes by force, destabilize most of the Middle East and instigate perpetual war.

Dick Cheney wanted to show a connection between Saddam and Al-Qaeda and 9/11

Dick Cheney knew that Saddam and Osama Bin Laden were ideological enemies and there were no connections between them.

Saddam ran a secular regime and had to suppress Islamic Extremism within Iraq (and the wider Muslim world) in order to remain in power.

Osama Bin Laden's stated aim was to set up a Global Caliphate and institute Sharia Law.

Dick Cheney knew there was no evidence to connect Saddam with 9/11 because Dick Cheney knew that Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with it. See 4.

Dick Cheney knew there are two main ways of producing false information by getting people to tell lies

You can bribe people to tell lies.

You can threaten people into telling lies. Torture is a very good way of threatening people - it causes them actual physical harm and they will say whatever they think the torturers want to hear in order to stop the torture.

Cheney used both methods to obtain false statements on Iraq
He used bribery on people like Chalabi (with promises of future power) and bribes on potential sources within Saddam's regime about Saddam's non-existent WMD programs.

He used torture on the prisoners the US had recently captured in Afghanistan and elsewhere.

Torture doesn't work in the context of producing "actionable intelligence"

This is well documented and well known to the intelligence services of all countries.

The FBI refused to participate in the CIA torture program and "obtained the maximum amount of actionable intelligence through the normal rapport-building interrogation methods" - source ex FBI leadership, ex FBI officers and Ex senior CIA officer.

When Dick Cheney and the CIA say that torture saved American lies they are lying

They claim that torture produced large quantities of "actionable intelligence" - this is a lie. Torture produced large quantities of false intelligence and lies that had the CIA and FBI running around wasting large amounts of effort and time, chasing after non-existent terrorist plots.

Cheney and the CIA claim the fact that these never existent terrorist plots never happened "saved lives". This is an obvious and blatant lie.

Torture is a War Crime and torturers must be prosecuted under US and UN law

There are no valid exceptions or get out clauses. You cannot use torture even when there is a possible threat of "imminent attack" - this is enshrined in US Law.

Torture enabled the US to locate and kill Osama Bin Laden

 This is a lie.

This was propagated in the film Zero Dark 30 and is an outright lie and the entire film is pro CIA and pro military propaganda that bears no relation to any truth.

The information and leads that led to the raid on Bin Laden's compound in Pakistan was obtained via normal intelligence methods and not through torture.

Cheney was justified in invading Iraq anyway because of WMD's

 This is a lie.

Saddam Hussein didn't have any WMD's.

The only "WMD's" Saddam had were a few old and rusty artillery shells that contained degraded chemical weapons. The Iraqi's would have gassed themselves if they had tried to fire these shells at US troops. US troops who later found and tried to remove these shells in Iraq, became ill because the shells were rusty and leaked their contents. The US troops didn't die of exposure because the chemicals had degraded.

The chemical weapons that Saddam once had, had been supplied by Donald Rumsfeld working for Reagan during the 1980's. Saddam had used these weapons to gas Iranians during the Iraq-Iran war and to gas Kurds to put down a US encouraged rebellion after the first Gulf War. In large part Saddam had used up the chemical weapons he once had and the rest of them were unusable as a weapon of war.

Saddam did not have a nuclear weapons program.

Both of the above were confirmed just prior and just after the Iraq invasion by the UN Weapons inspectors - Hans Blix and his team and by David Kelly - the UK UN weapon inspector and whistle blower.

Both the CIA and MI6 intelligence reports concluded that Saddam didn't have any WMD's.

The CIA reports were doctored in preparation to sell the Iraq war, by Paul Wolfowitz working in his office in the White House from January/February 2001.

The MI6 intelligence reports were "sexed" up by Tony Blair and John Scarlett - Blair's Head of the UK's Joint Intelligence Committee.

Torture used after the invasion of Iraq "saved lives"

 This is a lie.

As above, torture produces large quantities of false intelligence and lies.

The small quantity of "actionable intelligence" would have been obtained by the standard "rapport-building" interrogation methods used by intelligence services throughout the world (including the FBI) or other standard and LEGAL information collecting methods.

Torture costs lives

 This is a truth.

Torture is a weapon of terror. It induces terror in both the person being tortured and in the wider population as they hear stories about the people being tortured and that they might suffer the same fate.

Torture is used for propaganda purposes by obtaining false information and false witnesses for governments to tell lies.

Torture is also used by governments to terrorize a domestic population into submission by an authoritarian regime. In the case of Iraq this didn't work and led to the escalation of the civil war when Sunni's learned of the torture that was being carried out and was widespread at US run prisons such as Abu Ghraib and Camp Bucca.

Torture wastes time and effort by the investigating authorities, investigating false leads - when they could be spending time investigating genuine leads from genuine intelligence.

It alienates the local population from the instances of torture reported by prisoners when they are released, the state of the bodies for prisoner deaths and the false raids and arrests (for even more torture) carried out on innocent people as a result of lies told under torture.

All of the above will recruit some neutral or passive opponents of a regime into being active opponents and in the case of Iraq, recruit active fighters against US forces in the "Al-Qaeda" led rebellion against the US Occupation.

More American troops died in Iraq, as a result of torture being used in Iraqi prisons than would otherwise have been the case.

Over 4,000 US troops died and over 30,000 were wounded as a result of Cheney's lies that resulted in US public support for the illegal invasion of Iraq.

Americans are still being put at risk from torture.

They are at risk because the torture previously carried out is a recruitment tool for Islamic Extremists - see ISIS.

They are at risk because US torture encourages brutality in general.

They are at risk because the US has not offered an apology for the torture previously carried out.

They are at risk because the US has not prosecuted the people that initiated, designed, authorized and carried out torture.

They are at risk because torture is still being carried out by the US and it's proxies in places like Afghanistan, Iraq and Guantanamo Bay and probably on board US warships kept for the purpose in international waters.

They are at risk from the wars started and propagated by the US in Iraq, Libya and Syria and from the undeclared US wars in Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia.
Jeremy Scahill reported that rendition to US warships is still being carried out from Somalia.

The Senate Torture Report is only the tip of the ice berg on torture

Only 500 pages of a redacted summary of the 6,700 page Senate Report has been released to the public.

Obama is currently fighting to stop the release of further pictures of American torture.

Torture at certain prisons, such as Abu Ghraib, was excluded from the Senate investigation.

The torture carried out by rendition to foreign authoritarian governments in places like Libya, Syria and Egypt was excluded from the scope of the report.
The involvement of the British security services in the torture program was redacted from the Senate Torture Report.

Obama has not rejected torture - he has only banned certain types such as water boarding (water boarding had been discontinued anyway).

Obama has stopped the use of CIA "black sites" for torture in Poland, Lithuania and Romania etc.

Allegations of child rape and other forms of hideous torture within Abu Ghraib and elsewhere need to be formally investigated. See 1

Allegations of recent or current rendition to and torture upon US warships, stationed in international waters, need to be formally investigated. See 2

Allegations of torture still being carried out within prisons in Afghanistan, Iraq and Guantanamo Bay need to be formally investigated. See 3

The guilty must be prosecuted and punished as the only effective way for the US to apologize for the torture carried out.

All those responsible for torture, up to and including the most senior members of the Bush administration must be jailed. They have committed War Crimes as defined under US and international law.

The US must formally state that it will never torture again (this is currently far from the case).

The above will take away a terrorist tool currently used by Islamic Extremists to recruit more Muslims from joining Jihad.

Further information on the CIA torture program and why Dick Cheney used torture is within this:-

These people tortured to obtain false information to go to war on a lie in Iraq.  Cheney, Rumsfeld, Bush, Gonzales, Tenet, Hayden and all the other torturers should be in jail.

It was very obvious, for anyone that stopped and thought about it, to see that the invasion of Iraq and the Neocon agenda would lead to what we have now.

Perpetual war, a rise in support for Islamic Extremism (see ISIS) and a very significant weakening of America's strategic and economic position.

I saw it in early 2002 and I'm no genius. Other people saw it coming a lot earlier than me.
