Leonard Cohen RIP

Image
By Rolling Stone

Leonard Cohen, a hugely influential singer and songwriter, whose work spanned five decades, died at the age of 82. Cohen's label, Sony Music Canada, confirmed his death on the singer's Facebook page

"It is with profound sorrow we report that legendary poet, songwriter and artist, Leonard Cohen has passed away," the statement read. "We have lost one of music's most revered and prolific visionaries. A memorial will take place in Los Angeles at a later date. The family requests privacy during their time of grief." A cause of death was not given.

Cohen was the dark eminence among a small pantheon of extremely influential singer-songwriters to emerge in the Sixties and early Seventies. Only Bob Dylan exerted a more profound influence upon his generation, and perhaps only Paul Simon and fellow Canadian Joni Mitchell equaled him as a song poet. Cohen's haunting bass voice, nylon-stringed guitar patterns, Greek-chorus backing vocals shaped e…

Dave Chappelle Defends Trump, Rips Clinton: ‘She’s Not Right and We All Know It’

Comedian Dave Chappelle has been prepping for his November 12 hosting slot on Saturday Night Live with a series of surprise shows at The Cutting Room in New York. On Friday night, he shocked the crowd with a 60-minute set largely devoted to slamming Hillary Clinton.

He was particularly agitated about what he believes was Clinton’s role in leaking a surreptitiously recorded conversation between Republican nominee Donald J. Trump and TV personality Billy Bush. “What I heard on that tape was gross,” Chappelle said. “But the way I got to hear it was even more gross. You know that came directly from Hillary.” He stated this had put him off a candidate he had already known was “not right.” He likened voting for her to a hypothetical situation of actress Halle Berry breaking wind in his face during sexual relations. “I’m still going to go for it,” he said. “But I wish she hadn’t done that thing.”

WikiLeaks announced on Twitter that it launched “phase three of [its] election coverage.”

The anti-secrecy site put politicians on notice Sunday evening in a tweet that also included a plea for donations.

“We commence phase 3 of our US election coverage next week. You can contribute: https://shop.wikileaks.org/donate @WLTaskForce,” wrote the site.

WikiLeaks has already posted stolen emails from the Democratic National Committee and Clinton campaign chief John Podesta. The hacker Guccifer 2.0 took credit for the DNC breach and is widely believed to be a front for a Russian intelligence group tied to the Podesta breach.

Guccifer 2.0 was also involved in the attack on the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Guccifer 2.0, who claims to be a lone Romanian man, leaked files to The Hill and other sites from both the DNC and DCCC hacks.

Talking with The Hill this summer, Guccifer 2.0 said he sent the brunt of the files taken from the DCCC attack to WikiLeaks. Those fi…
