Are police officers allowed to lie to you? Yes the Supreme Court has ruled that police officers can lie to the American people. Police officers are trained at lying, twisting words and being manipulative. Police officers and other law enforcement agents are very skilled at getting information from people. So don’t try to “out smart” a police officer and don’t try being a “smooth talker” because you will lose! If you can keep your mouth shut, you just might come out ahead more than you expected. Marijuana trafficker sentenced to federal prison

By Anthony Borrelli

For 10 years, a Delaware County man was "in and out" of the marijuana trafficking business. He handled between 20 and 30 pounds of marijuana at one point, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office, using firearms to protect the drugs and thousands of dollars in proceeds.

After admitting his guilt on two charges, Willem Joosse, 37, was sentenced Thursday in Binghamton's federal courthouse to 2 ¾ years in prison. He pleaded to felony counts of possessing firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking crimes and conspiracy to possess and distribute a controlled substance.

According to prosecutors, Joosse used encrypted phones to place orders for marijuana and had another person deliver marijuana to a customer on Long Island.

When agents from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration showed up at Joosse's home in Hobart, Delaware County, in October 2011, officials informed him he was the subject of a long term investigation into marijuana trafficking, court papers said.

Joosse admitted to the federal investigators he had been "in and out" of marijuana trafficking for a decade, according to court papers.

He started out buying up to five pounds of marijuana and eventually worked up to sales ranging from 20 to 30 pounds, court papers said.

The drug trafficking conspiracy charge he admitted to accused him of crimes between October 2009 and October 2011.

Investigators seized $155,000 in profits from marijuana sales at Joosse's residence in October 2011, along with a handgun and a stolen shotgun. Just under a half-pound of marijuana was also seized, court papers said.

The federal grand jury indicted Joosse in December 2015, bringing three felony counts. He remained on supervised release after being charged and following his guilty plea in August 2016.

Prosecutors, in pursuit of at least 5 years in prison, argued Joosse's prior conviction for misdemeanor criminal possession of a weapon and a February 2017 arrest for alleged intoxicated snowmobiling with a blood alcohol content of 0.18 percent cast "serious doubt on his readiness to conform his conduct to the law."

Assistant Federal Public Defender Gene V. Primomo, in court papers, said his client's extensive support from family and friends were strong predictors he would not return to the "easy money" of the drug trade.
