Traffic stops lead police to suspected heroin house in Porter

By William Axford,

On May 22, deputies with the Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constable's Office stopped Renee Hemphill, 43, of Cleveland in the area of FM 1314 and Briartree in Porter. Deputies said they found syringes, a dirty spoon with brown residue, a small electronic scale, edible marijuana and envelopes with dollar amounts written on them inside her vehicle.

Plastic baggies containing a hard brown substance were found in each envelope. Deputies said the substance tested positive for heroin, which weighed a little more than 5 grams.

Hemphill was arrested and charged with manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance.

On May 23, deputies stopped Thomas McKean, 40, of Willis and Jennifer McKean, 40, of Conroe, in the area of FM 1314 and Riverwalk. A K9 unit alerted deputies to drugs, leading to the discovery of .5 grams of heroin. The two were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance. A small child was in the car at the time of the traffic stop, leading to the additional charge of child endangerment.

Investigators were able to trace the origins of the drugs back to a home in Porter, authorities said. While executing a search warrant for a home on the 23000 block of Holly Ridge on May 23, deputies found .6 grams of methamphetamine and 42.6 grams of heroin.

The discovery of the drugs led to the arrest of Joshua Campbell, 34 of Crosby and Judy Mueler, 52, of Porter. Campbell was charged with possession of a controlled substance for the methamphetamine. Mueller was charged with manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance for the heroin.

"These narcotics were obviously destined for the streets of East Montgomery County," said Constable Rowdy Hayden in a press release. "Heroin is an incredibly addictive narcotic and I'm glad we were able to intercept the narcotics before more of it hit the streets."
