Sessions targets opioid manufacturers with new task force

By Danielle Haynes

The Justice Department has formed a new task force to target drug manufacturers and distributors that have contributed to the nation's opioid crisis, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced Tuesday, the third such team he has created to tackle the epidemic.

Speaking in Washington, D.C., the nation's top law enforcement official said the Prescription Interdiction & Litigation Task Force, or PIL, would examine possible legislative and regulatory changes in existing laws in order to halt the unlawful spread of opioids.

"We will use criminal penalties. We will use civil penalties. We will use whatever tools we have to hold people accountable for breaking our laws," Sessions said.

The task force is part of the Trump administration's effort to crack down on opioid abuse, which Sessions said killed an estimated 64,000 Americans in 2016, and likely killed more in 2017. In October, President Donald Trump declared the opioid crisis a nat…

Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock - It Takes Two

Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock were a hip hopduo from Harlem, New York who were best known for their hit "It Takes Two", a single that was a top 40 hit and has been certified platinum by the RIAA. That song was a part of the duo's album of the same name, which also has been certified platinum. They are also known for being pioneers of the crossover success that rap music would have in the popular music mainstream.[1] The duo consisted of Rob Base (Robert Ginyard, born May 18, 1967) and DJ E-Z Rock (Rodney "Skip" Bryce, born 1967[citation needed]; died April 27, 2014).

David Bowie's Last Secret Weapon

Image
By Danny Ross, Forbes

Much like David Bowie's life, his death was shrouded in mystery and genius.
In fact, his last five years have begun to emerge as the stuff of legend. In that period, Bowie secretly recorded two superb albums (The Next Day and Blackstar) and developed the Broadway musical Lazarus, all while suffering from terminal cancer.

Enter audio engineer Erin Tonkon. I was fascinated how this San Diego native made the journey from seeing Bowie on her bedroom wall to behind the vocal booth. Not only does she push the buttons and turn the knobs to make fantastic-sounding records, but she forges a bold path for women on the technical side of the music industry. Here's our chat:

Danny Ross: How involved was David in the studio?

Erin Tonkon: David was there for absolutely everything. Usually, the lead singer will get a coffee while the band is tracking, but David never left the room. He was constantly listening, thinking of new ideas, encouraging, and giving feedbac…

A Juggalo's Three 6 Mafia Torrenting Gave a Bar 500 Copyright Violations

Image
By Phil Witmer, VICE

Three 6 Mafia are the greatest rap group of all time, though someone who attended a juggalo Valentine's show at Mac's Bar in Lansing, Michigan may have felt the need to celebrate them in a chaotic and damaging way. The venerable music venue received 500 DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) notices last week (essentially just cease-and-desist letters) after an unknown patron downloaded Three 6's full discography on the bar's Wi-Fi. The too-good-to-be-true tweet that broke this news is below.

The tweet is by Scott Bell, talent buyer for Mac's and tour manager for Scranton punks The Menzingers. Speaking to Noisey, Bell describes coming home from tour managing in Europe to "this big white box. I was like, 'oh did Comcast send us a new router?' No, they sent us 500 pages of the same DMCA notice." Bell notes that the incident happened during a local event for juggalos, which he says isn't all that weird of an oc…
